Hey. I agree Iraq is not in good shape right now. But this wasn't unexpected. If you do a little research you will see how bad Germany was after World War II. They turned out well but it took years to get a stable country and government together.
Plus, a majority of those fighting us there are not Iraqis but insurgents.
My Reply:
Actually the guys in charge thought that Iraqis would welcome us once we toppled the saddam. I'm sure they thought there would be pockets of resistance that would be difficult to deal with namely whereever the Bathist decided to camp out, but they had no clue of the scale we are at now. No one seems to realize how much people don't like other countries meddling in their affairs. Even if they are ruled by a crazy sadistic murderer. How pissed was everyone here when that british paper bough registered voter US addresses and started a letter writing campaign for Kerry(or at least assumed it was for him). That was a letter, not a large tank in your front yard along with dozens of m16s pointed at you, your faimly and goats.I should really check my spelling and grammer more often. It's attrocious, attrosious horrible.
The insurgents have been all lumped together by the media. What is an insurgent? From everything I head it could be any or all of the following: Foriegn terrorists, radical shiek (sp?) followers, bored, poor, uneducated downtrodden townsfolk or anyone who had a relative killed in the war and now has a beef with us.
Your also right that years from now , many lives and many US dollars Iraq might settle down. It seems to me we blindly hit at a bee's hive without really knowing how many bees where in there and how big there stingers were. (sorry for the poor analogy)
I do have to comment on comparing Germany to Iraq. Those two countries (time difference aside) have very very very different cultures, infrastructure, educational backgrounds and idealogical views. The only common thread is the tendency of trying to eliminate a race of people.![]()
