The fix I did for the BSOD after the update was in my opinion very geeky of me. I booted with the XP CD to the recovery console and logged into the c:\windows. I found the last updates that were installed and check each of the directories. I found one that updated user32.dll which is what was mentioned in the blue screen of death. There is an uninstall directory and I found a .txt file that showed where each file was and the original verision. I copied each backedup orginal .dll and .exe back to the original location and then rebooted. It worked! Almost. The network wouldn't load and some things seemed not to be running. At that point I restored to my last recovery point and everything works.
What a pain in the ass. That procedure was not found on the internet nor was it the first thing I tried.
