Saw Willy Wonka last night. I have to say I enjoyed it even though at times Depp was a bit strange in a fruity way. Gene Wilder did a really good job of being Wonka but Depp took a different more childlike view of the character but it bordered on forced in a couple of scenes. The Oompa Lompas were copies on a single guy who did a good job but they changed the music and lyrics to the songs. I can understand changing the music but the lyrics should have been the same as the 1st movie and book. The fizzy drink scene was gone as well as the 70's drug trip of the tunnel and boat. Sluggo was mentioned but he didn't return in the end like the 1st movie. Tim Burton or at least the writer decided to give a little back history to Wonka so you have a sense of why he likes candy. Also the endding is a little different but in my opinion fits with Tim Burton's interpertation of the book. There was some funny scenes and some very subtle humor. At one point in the TV room where they all gather around the TV, the loan oompa lumpa sitting in the seat behind them w/ the remote kinda leans to the left and right trying to see around them. I found that part a bit funny. In another scene the characters question one of the oompa lumpa songs because they mention the name of the character in it. "How could they make a song with his name in it?" Charlie asked and "It sounded rehearsed" commented one of the children. Also all the songs had a 70's theme except for a 80's type hair-band rendidition of one of the songs.
Marla from the Fight Club(Helena Bonham Carter) played Charlie's mother and it distracted me all movie but what killed any attraction I had was the fact they greyed out all their teeth.

One other thing that was very disturbing was they CGI'd the kids faces so they made them all look like cherub-like without a blemish or natrual skin tone. It was especially frightening w/ Agustus Gloop. It's kinda like a photoshopped image of each kid and then they added the bluest eye coloring they could find in the palette.
