Yeah, pretty easy play on words there. Our travel call will be coming very soon. Travel call? We will be notified when it's ok to travel to Seoul, Korea to pick up our son. Pick up your son? Our son that Karen and I have been working towards adopting for most of a year now. We are both looking forward to pick up and take our son Kevin back home. As anxious as we are for that we also realize that this is a first time experience for us. Traveling across the world to a very foreign country. Culture, history, language, food ... It will be all new and very different for us. Personally I have a desire to experience it more than just this possible one time shot but realistically it will be the only one I'll get in the near future. I will take as much video and photos as I can when I'm there to remember my experience and let my son(s) experience it when they are older. My elder son Kyle will be coming with us so he can experience it himself as well. When he gets older he can share that experience along with photos and video with his younger brother. Being raised an only child and only experience sibling life through Karen's side of the family, I'll be in for a whole new parenting experience coupled with the fact that he will be of a different race. Knowing how ignorant a lot of the country is, it should make for some interesting story. My biggest concern is for Kevin is giving him the strength and confidence to deal with the many assholes and bigots that he will inevitably run into in his life. Our town thankfully is pretty diverse for a middle-class town so he will see that the world is more than just a specific racial type. I can't wait to see him in person, pictures, while help hold you over a bit, kinda like a menu being placed in the waiting area of a restaurant, it ain't the same have the real thing. I'll have to work on that analogy a bit. One other thing about traveling around the world is that this may be the only time I could actually crash land into a desert island like Tom Hanks. The scenario isn't good though, I'd much rather explore that movie induced fantasy without worrying about my family. Damn you Mr. Hanks and who ever made the Blue Lagoon, Swiss Family Robinson, Lost, Tarzan and any other deserted island ship/plane wrecked movie.
I'm doing my research with wikipedia.org on Seoul and playing a Living langauge tape on Korean to get my feet wet. Realistically I'll be more lost than a mid-western farm hand in a Russian Space Station Oxygen Scrubber diagnostic meeting held at 7am with no coffee and a hang-over. (?!)
What's with all the Ks? Karen, Kyle,Kevin? I wanted a tattoo with all their names but getting 3 K's isn't a really good tat decision.
