My Denon DVD player which is out of warranty took a poop and won't recognize DVDs any longer. I found out later it was one of the worse reviewed Denon DVD players made. In my defense I bought it new without looking at reviews and based on the jackhole who sold me my surround sound system. I wasn't happy w/ the DVD player anyway so i'm not gonna spend +$ to fix it. So I'm looking for a progressive scan DVD player w/ upscaling, bookmarking features, HDMI, component out, can read CD-R, DVD-R/+R/RAM, has a quick start up and a good remote(even though I'm using a universal). I'm not looking for a reference DVD player but I also don't want a cheap one that is gonna break in a year or two.
I have been looking and found a few. I want to stay away from Sony and some odd-brands that I never heard of but got good reviews in Amazon.com. However, the no-sony rule isn't hard set if it hits on every feature that I and is around my price range $150-$300 I'll buy it.
This DVD player will be matched with a Denon 3805 A/V reciever and a Sharp Aquos 37" HD LCD TV. I have to double check but I believe my HDMI port is open on the TV and was gonna run the audio through the reciever and the video right to the TV from the DVD player if it has HDMI. Otherwise I need to stick to component in which case audio and video will be fed through the reciever.
