Nintendo
I grew up in the Nintendo era. I was old enough to own any of the consoles and even worked at Electronics Boutique before it was shortened to EB and before they sold Sega & Nintendo. I saw and sold the first Gameboy which some of you might be surprised was not in color. Yes, I'm that old. I sold game cartridges and game consoles with a little disdain because I was more interested in the Amiga and PC XT. I did my gaming on the latter. I never owned a console or Gameboy. When my son was deemed old enough I graced him w/ a GBA and after a while a SP. There was much rejoicing. Then thPublish Poste DS came along and he got one for Xmas and then a DS lite for some other life event. Games were bought and I even looked at a few but never did I gain any interest in getting a handheld system for myself. My son didn't like Mario which was OK w/ me as those jumping games always frustrated me. I owned a PSP and that didn't hold my interest much beyond the video capabilities. Then Puzzle Quest came out and a few other games that attracted my attention. I finally relented and bought the Red and Black Brain Age 2 version. I was happy w/ Mario Cart, bought used and Puzzle Quest. Last week I was looking for a game to play while I was going to be away for work in DC. I see Phantom Hour Glass in Circuit City. A Zelda game. Zelda and I just had nothing in common. I even tried an older version my son had. There wasn't any disdain, just indifference. Similar to Pokemon games which my son loves that I have no interest in. I looked at the Phantom Hourglass case, thinking of the reviews I read and decided to give it a try. I was attracted by the interaction w/ the stylus, puzzles and battle system. I have barely scratched the surface of the game, but already I can see the appeal. I understand why kids flock to the title time and time again. My son has Mario Galaxy waiting for him under the tree this year. He didn't put it on his list but I made sure it was there because as a gaming Dad I want my son to be a well-rounded gamer which as it turns out, I am not. But I am trying to correct that.
