Today Chole ran away or should I say wandered away after the gate was blown open by the wind. The gate was never closed right by the lawn cutters and since we have been busy preparing to Kyle's bday party each of us thinks the other got her in. She usually comes upstairs and sleeps the morning away after the hard working sleep of the night shift. So when I saw the fence was open in the afternoon I did a dog head count and found only 3. I must have circled the neighborhood 5 times and walked a around a bit for over an hour. Same for Karen and our distraught son in her car. I start making wider circles touching on the busy roads surrounding our development, dreading that I'd find her there. People outside in the neighborhood hadn't seen a little white pug so I came back and checked the house for the 3rd time and found nothing. Then a neighbor who we didn't even tell recognized our dog in the development across a busy street form ours and led us to where she saw her. Karen said she saw her but when she called to the dog Chole went behind a house which happens to open to a field that emptied out onto the busy road or another development of larger houses. However, we couldn't spot Chole anywhere, calling her name, looking under lines of pine trees turned up nothing. I circled around to the other development in my jeep hoping that she ran through to the other side and not the road and didn't find her. I go back to the field and thought about where she would have gone. The field ends in a point created by a line of trees and solid fences of to neighboring developments. So I walked over to the point and there she was sitting with her back to the fence wagging her tail that I found her. She didn't come running over and thought she was in trouble so she walked a few steps and stop. I tried let's go in, want a treat, good girl... nothing. Then I asked if she was hungry and wanted dinner. Now she comes running over.
Whew.
