When the smoke clears two were missing

Last week some people who work next to our group got axed. This week the rumors were flying & our company's PM was in meetings here and everyone was acting squirelly. Yesterday our PM from our consultant company in meeting with our manager. By the afternoon we were all called into a meeting. I was asked to join if I would like too. I did because even though I'm leaving to another dept. I liked some if not most of these people. It turns out that initially there were 5 people getting axed but thanks to money that was found in the budget and my leaving it was only 2 people. Our Technical lead who is retired and already collecting Social Security and another PC guy who handled our network of pcs and generally worked harder than most people in our group. He's got 3 girls and I felt bad for him. It turns out that he might be coming over to work in my group anyway so it might work out ok. Normally they have to reup the contract in June but they were told they were ok until Dec. After that? Who knows? Everyone here is updating their resume. Just two days before the manager of the group told our TEchnical lead that everyone is safe, the next day he's gone(at the end of the month).
