virus killer = BitDefender
McAffe on my desktop wanted to upgrade to the latest. No charge since I already updated the license. My laptop was already updated and about a month later my desktop turn came around. I downloaded the updated via the login IE screen which pissed me off since I use Firefox/Mozilla so I had to redo everything again in IE. It downloads a little installer that you run and then it downloads the larger app. McAffe with the new gray and red logo installs and then reboots me into a nice BSOD(Blue screen of death) after I log in. I recover the last good login and try it again, it works a bit better and ran a scan. But it wasn't completely installed and on reboot it BSOD again. Screw that noise so I go online and look for something other than McAffe or Norton and find a Consumer Report article that mentions BitDefender which I had heard of before. After a quick search of the site I find a free version. I download the free version quickly, install it quickly and reboot. No issues and it seems the system is a bit snappier. I run the full scan and find two dormant virsus(trojan and backdoor) on files from my p2p days 2 years ago! McAffee has been on my system for almost the entire f'in time and didn't see these guys sitting there laughing at me. I never ran the infected files so they were never in memory but I'm still pissed at mcAffe in general. It completely falls inline with the Consumer Reports article on antivirus software that puts McAffe in the middle of the group.
